Extension Accomplishments (10 year)
New publication released: PMR 1009, Corn Growth & Development; a Spanish version coming soon, electronic version, pending. Impact: Plant populations increase about 400 plants per acre per year. 2010 corn planted earlier than ever. Both of these indicate producers implement production practices we’ve advocated through our extension programs: early planting and higher seeding rates. Grain yields increase at about 2 ½ bushels per acre per year.
Research Accomplishments (10-year)
We provide Iowa corn producers with timely research information to help them improve production and profitability focusing in part on plant populations and planting dates as a way to continue increasing corn yields in Iowa. Two research projects started this year focused on high-yield production systems. Our programs help producers keep pace with these changes.
